About OuterLimitz

OuterLimitz is the baby of Tony and Di Brooks -

First started back in the early 80's/late 70's - with a fifties record hop run by Tony and DJ's by Tony, Brian Staples and Brino - and at the same time Tony and Di had a small stall in Lionel Digby's Old Cop Shop in Market Street, Torquay selling vintage 50's clothing. At this time the name was spelt the same as the TV series - Outer Limits After some years doing this kids came along and sacrifices had to made! (Like a Chevy Impala, Ford Consul Capri and others) Once the kids grew up, back came the Yanks led by a 55 Ford Crown Victoria (now a sofa!) After getting back on scene and going to a few weekenders, visiting vintage clothing shops and stalls in Camden etc, Tony and Di started to think they could go back to what they loved doing before, playing good music and selling great clothes! However - the web domain name OuterLimits had been taken by someone else (huh!) so the spelling had to be changed.

Vintage clothing is not as readily available or as cheap as back in the 70's and 80's which led Di into designing and creating a vintage inspired range - with a conscious decision that dresses should not be produced in huge quantities as a lot of girls dont want to see others in their dress! Also she gets bored doing the same frocks over and over again! Although without formal training, Di has made wedding and christening gowns for an exclusive shop, has been dress making professionally for years, and having spent years taking apart and adapting vintage clothing has extensive knowledge of how fifties clothing was put together to create certain effects and fit. Fabrics for OuterLimitz are chosen with care - the Hawaiian prints are mostly imported from California. Bengaline is used for a lot of wiggle dresses, skirts and shorts as this fabric gives a good fit, allows the body to move without stressing the garment seams, is durable and hand washable. OuterLimitz clothes are made to last! Most dresses feature lined and boned bodices to give a streamlined fit. Some items are made using vintage fabric, and to vintage dress patterns.

Vintage clothing is checked and repaired if needed before sale - every vintage item is carefully selected and if found to be too damaged to be worn it is discarded. Sometimes a more modern item wil be spotted which just smacks totally of the fifites - any items like this are always labelled 'Retro' - it is important that customers always know exactly what they are buying!!
